Michael Halliday a linguist who developed the internationally influential systemic functional linguistics model of language. His grammatical descriptions go by the name of systemic functional grammar. His theory and descriptions are based on five principles: paradigmatic dimension, stratification dimension, metafunctional dimension, syntagmatic dimension, instantiation dimension. Moreover, the lecture investigates cognitive linguistics as an interdisciplinary branch of linguistics, combining knowledge and research from both psychology and linguistics. It describes how language interacts with cognition, how language forms our thoughts, and the evolution of language parallel with the change in the common mindset across time.
